Karenjit Kaur Vohra, known as Sunny Leone by her stage name, is a former pornographic actress currently working as an actress and model in the Indian film industry. She has citizenship in the United States and Canada. She has also used Karen Malhotra as the stage name. In 2003, she was named Penthouse Pet of the Year, was a contract artist for Vivid Entertainment, and was named one of the top 12 porn stars in 2010, by Maxim.

She has performed roles in independent international events, plays, and TV shows. Her first television appearance was in 2005, when she was working on MTV India as a red carpet correspondent for the MTV Video Music Awards. She took part in the Indian Reality TV show Bigg Boss in 2011. 

She has also presented Splitsvilla, an Indian reality show. In 2012, in Pooja Bhatt's romantic thriller Jism 2 (2012), she made her Bollywood debut and shifted her attention to mainstream acting, followed by Jackpot (2013), Ragini MMS 2 (2014), Ek Paheli Leela (2015) and Tera Intezaar (2017).

Karenjit Kaur Vohra was born to parents of Sikh Indian Punjabi on 13 May 1981 in Sarnia, Ontario. She was a self-described tomboy as a young girl, very athletic and played with the boys in the street hockey.

While she was Sikh in the family, her parents enrolled her in Catholic school, because she felt it was risky to go to public school. Her family moved to Fort Gratiot, Michigan, when she was 13, then a year later to Lake Forest, California, fulfilling the vision of her grandparents that the family would be together in one place. She said that Sunny is her real name when she selected a name for her adult career and Leone was chosen by Bob Guccione, former Penthouse magazine publisher. She posed for the Penthouse magazine and was named Penthouse Pet of the Month for the March 2001 issue, followed by a Hustler Honey feature in the Holiday 2001 edition.

Leone signed a three-year contract with Vivid Entertainment that same year, with which she transitioned to the world of hardcore pornography, stating that she would only do lesbian scenes. Her next film, Virtual Vivid Girl Sunny Leone, was Leone's first interactive title, and was the first Vivid Girl to make such a film. She organized a casting call for her second independent production in Las Vegas in June 2009 named Sunny Slumber Party (released September 2009). She followed up with three more self-produced films, Gia Portrait of a Porn Star (2010), nominated for multiple AVN awards, Roleplay (2011) and Goddess (2012), including her first anal sex scene.

Since 2009, Leone has started working with other studios and artists, no longer exclusive to Vivid. She announced her retirement from the adult industry in 2013 stating "I'm lucky the audience will accept me. I've come my way from there (porn industry) and I don't have any plans to go back there as of now."
