Discovery by V. Shantaram: Sandhya's journey in the film industry began when she was discovered by the acclaimed filmmaker V. Shantaram. Seeking fresh talent for his film "Amar Bhoopali" in 1951, Shantaram was captivated by Sandhya's unique voice, reminiscent of his second wife, the actress Jayshree. Sandhya's entry into the world of cinema marked the start of a prolific collaboration with Shantaram.

Film Debut and Career Highlights: In 1952, Sandhya made her acting debut in the Marathi film "Amar Bhoopali," portraying the role of a vocalist, capturing the attention of poet Honaji Bala. Subsequently, she became a prominent face in Shantaram's films, starring in iconic works such as "Teen Batti Char Raasta" (1953), where she played Kokila, an impoverished girl with a secret radio star persona.

Her breakthrough came with "Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje" (1955), a film that showcased her dedication to her craft. Despite lacking formal dance training, Sandhya underwent intensive classical dance instruction for her role, earning accolades for her portrayal of a Kathak dancer preparing for a competition.

Stree and Later Works: In 1961, Sandhya took on the challenging role of Shakuntala in "Stree," a film adaptation of the Mahabharata. Notably, she performed scenes with real lions, showcasing her commitment to her craft. Her final major role was in the Marathi film "Pinjra" (1972), where she played a tamasha artiste falling in love with a reformative school teacher.
