By late summer 2011, the single had peaked at number one in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, New Zealand, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It also made the top five in Finland, Italy, Norway, Poland, and Sweden. It is Australia's all-time best-selling single. It was the third best-selling digital single of 2011 globally, selling 9.7 million copies. It is the third most successful digital music in US history. Billboard presently ranks "Party Rock Anthem" as the ninth most successful song of all time. With almost 2 billion views as of 2023, it is one of YouTube's top 100 videos.

Party Rock Anthem" is primarily an electronic piece. The song was included in the 2012 action comedy film 21 Jump Street, which earned an MTV Movie Award for Best Music. The song also received the "Favorite Song" award from the 2012 Kids' Choice Awards.

Background

On March 9, 2011,[8] a music video was released, made by the two members of LMFAO, Redfoo and Sky Blu, with assistance from Shinzo Ai. It was choreographed by and included Quest Crew members Hokuto Konishi, Victor Kim, Ryan Conferido, Steve Terada, Aris Paracuelles, Brian Hirano, and Ryan Feng. The video is a parody of the 2002 horror film 28 Days Later. Lauren Bennett, who performs in the song, also appears in the music video. Director Mickey Finnegan characterized the premise as follows: "There's been an epidemic, the world has gone crazy, as soon as the song came out, everyone got possessed, and all they want to do is shuffle, everyone is a shuffler."

The dancers in the film perform the Melbourne Shuffle, which quickly became popular in the United States.
