Lyrics

Because you know I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass, 'bout that bass (bass, bass, bass, bass)

Yeah, it's pretty clear, I ain't no size two
But I can shake it, shake it, like I'm supposed to do
'Cause I got that boom boom that all the boys chase
And all the right junk in all the right places
I see the magazines (ah-ha) workin' that Photoshop (ah-ha)
We know that shit ain't real
Come on now, make it stop
If you got beauty beauty (ah-ha), just raise 'em up
'Cause every inch of you is perfect
From the bottom to the top

Yeah, my mama she told me don't worry about your size (shoo-wop, wop)
(Sha-ooh-wop, wop)
She says, boys like a little more booty to hold at night
(That booty, booty, uh, that booty, booty)
And no I won't be no stick-figure, silicone Barbie doll (shoo-wop, wop)
(Sha-ooh-wop, wop)
So, if that's what's you're into
Then go ahead and move along

Because you know I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass, 'bout that bass, hey

I'm bringing booty back
Go ahead and tell them skinny bitches that
No, I'm just playing I know y'all think you're fat
But I'm here to tell you
Every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top

Yeah, my mama she told me don't worry about your size (shoo-wop, wop)
(Sha-ooh-wop, wop)
She says, boys like a little more booty to hold at night
(That booty, booty, uh, that booty, booty)
And no I won't be no stick-figure, silicone Barbie doll (shoo-wop, wop)
(Sha-ooh-wop, wop)
So, if that's what's you're into
Then go ahead and move along

Because you know I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble (ooh)
I'm all about that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble (yeah, yeah, yeah)
I'm all about that bass, 'bout that bass (hey, yeah)

Because you know I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
(Said) I'm all about that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble
(Uh) I'm all about that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble
(I said) I'm all about that bass, 'bout that bass (ooh)

Because you know I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
(Said) I'm all about that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble (I'm all about that bass)
I'm all about that bass, 'bout that bass
'Bout that bass
'Bout that bass
Hey
Hey
Hey, hey
Ooh
You know you love this bass
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Haha

Released on June 30, 2014, on Epic Records, "All About That Bass" is American singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor's debut single. The track appeared on both Trainor's 2014 debut extended play (EP) Title and her 2015 debut studio album of the same name. The hip-hop, doo-wop, and bubblegum pop song "All About That Bass" was co-written by Trainor and producer Kevin Kadish. Trainor was motivated to write the song to encourage self-acceptance because she had a difficult time growing up with a bad body image.

While some music critics condemned "All About That Bass" for being a novelty song and for failing to empower women of all body types, others applauded the song's production and memorable message. At the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, the song was nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. It was certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and became the best-selling single by a female artist in the United States throughout the 2010s. With 11 million copies sold worldwide, it became the fourth best-selling single of 2014. It also peaked at number one in 58 countries and was certified multi-platinum in Australia, Canada, Denmark, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

Context

an illustration of L.A. Reid wearing a black suit.
L.A. Reid, chairman of Epic Records, determined that Trainor's demo should be the final version of the song, with extra mastering.

Meghan Trainor, who saw herself as "one of the chubby girls who would never be an artist," chose to write music for other singers after releasing three albums on her own independently between 2009 and 2010. She relocated to Nashville in November of 2012 after inking a publishing agreement with Big Yellow Dog Music, a music publishing company with headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee. In June 2013, Trainor and American songwriter Kevin Kadish met at Carla Wallace's suggestion, who happens to be Big Yellow Dog's co-owner. Kadish scheduled a writing session with Trainor for the next month because she liked the way she spoke. He described their relationship as "like a blind date" because they both shared a passion for 1950s and 1960s pop music and had a great songwriter's chemistry.
