Karenjit Kaur Vohra, known as Sunny Leone by her stage name, is a former pornographic actress currently working as an actress and model in the Indian film industry. She has citizenship in the United States and Canada. She has also used Karen Malhotra as the stage name. In 2003, she was named Penthouse Pet of the Year, was a contract artist for Vivid Entertainment, and was named one of the top 12 porn stars in 2010, by Maxim.

She has performed roles in independent international events, plays, and TV shows. Her first television appearance was in 2005, when she was working on MTV India as a red carpet correspondent for the MTV Video Music Awards. She took part in the Indian Reality TV show Bigg Boss in 2011. 

She has also presented Splitsvilla, an Indian reality show. In 2012, in Pooja Bhatt's romantic thriller Jism 2 (2012), she made her Bollywood debut and shifted her attention to mainstream acting, followed by Jackpot (2013), Ragini MMS 2 (2014), Ek Paheli Leela (2015) and Tera Intezaar (2017).

Karenjit Kaur Vohra was born to parents of Sikh Indian Punjabi on 13 May 1981 in Sarnia, Ontario. She was a self-described tomboy as a young girl, very athletic and played with the boys in the street hockey.

While she was Sikh in the family, her parents enrolled her in Catholic school, because she felt it was risky to go to public school. Her family moved to Fort Gratiot, Michigan, when she was 13, then a year later to Lake Forest, California, fulfilling the vision of her grandparents that the family would be together in one place. She said that Sunny is her real name when she selected a name for her adult career and Leone was chosen by Bob Guccione, former Penthouse magazine publisher. She posed for the Penthouse magazine and was named Penthouse Pet of the Month for the March 2001 issue, followed by a Hustler Honey feature in the Holiday 2001 edition.

She announced the start of her own studio, Sunlust Pictures, with Daniel Weber as her partner, in August 2009. With her new venture Leone announced her plans to write, direct and create her own brand of adult films with her distributor Vivid Entertainment. Her first independent film, The Dark Side of the Sun, was released in March 2009, and premiered in the Las Vegas Erotic Heritage Museum. She organized a casting call for her second independent production in Las Vegas in June 2009 named Sunny Slumber Party (released September 2009). She followed up with three more self-produced films, Gia Portrait of a Porn Star (2010), nominated for multiple AVN awards, Roleplay (2011) and Goddess (2012), including her first anal sex scene.

Since 2009, Leone has started working with other studios and artists, no longer exclusive to Vivid. Its online success was leveraged by signing deals with companies such as PPPcard, AdultPokerParty.com, Brickhouse, Flirt4Free, Totemcash and Imlive to sell and distribute its content over the internet and other media. She won the 2008 Xbiz Awards for "the Web Babe of the Year." Her websites and business activities are managed under her banner company Leone L.L.C. Leone was part of the Vivid Comedy Tour, in addition to her film career, and she modelled for the Vivid Footwear collection. Leone has also taken part in events such as the Vivid / ClubJenna Lingerie Bowl and the Hot Rod Night at Vivid. She was named one of the 12 top female stars in porn in 2010, by Maxim. She was named number 82 in AskMen.com's list of top 99 women for 2012.

She announced her retirement from the adult industry in 2013 stating "I'm lucky the audience will accept me. I've come my way from there (porn industry) and I don't have any plans to go back there as of now."

She was named as one of BBC's 100 Women in 2016. The Tech magazine, Exhibit picked Sunny Leone for their October 2016 issue cover girl.
